Support Buddies
In response to the COVID-19 virus, we partnered with Heineberg Community Senior Center to create “Support Buddies” in March 2020. Volunteers were matched with seniors isolated at home throughout Chittenden County. These special volunteers provided phonecall check-ins, helped with grocery lists, and assisted where needed. We spoke with over 650 seniors; provided meals, groceries, and delivery to at least 100 folks a week; and had 25 volunteers lending a hand. Much gratitude to Age Well, August First, Barrio Bakery, Burlington’s Resource & Recovery Center (especially Will Clavelle), City Market, Computers for Change, Everyone Eats, Hannaford, Jake’s ONE Market, New North End Food Pantry, ShiftMeals, Sweetwaters, Vermont Foodbank, and all of our volunteers for their help with this important endeavor!
We also renovated a building at Heineberg Senior Center and share the space with the New North End Food Pantry to create a safe distribution location and separate entrance during COVID and beyond.
Due to a lack of funding, we’ve been unable to continue the program, but thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for their support and help during COVID. And we’re thrilled that some of the friendships have continued and grown stronger.
