Mother’s Day
Mothers come into our lives in so many different forms. An aunt, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, foster Mom, niece, stepmother, sister-in-law, or best friend may be the person who “mothered” you, set a positive example, encouraged you when it felt as though the world had turned its back on you. Some of us are lucky enough to have found that person in our own Mom.
Most of our HANDS recipients are older women. Many of them worked, raised families, struggled at some point financially, and took care of others before themselves. Now we are offering to lend a hand to these women in our mission to reduce food insecurity. We’re looking forward to expanding the “Diverse Pantry” program this year, widening partnerships with Feeding Chittenden and local African farmers among others as we strive to get more culturally-appropriate fresh food to seniors in our immigrant and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities.
I would like to thank everyone who has served as a mother to someone else along the pathway of life. That includes our Board, volunteers, partners, workers, and seniors themselves. Happy Mother’s Day! You’ve all made the world better. —-Megan
